WW2 MEMORIAL PLAQUE - CASUALTY IN ITALY - S.A.TANK CORPS

ROBERT CUBITT FROST
(Died in Italy 6 April 1945)
Served with the Special Service Battalion (S.A.Tank Corps)
under the Command of the 6th South African Armoured Division.
This Division was attached to General Mark Clark's US 5th Army during the campaign.

According to archival records FROST was killed in a "Battle Accident".
Not so says his nephew (I got the plaque from him). The story goes
that he died during Victory "celebrations" early in April '45.
He apparently died while celebrating with SSB mates on a balcony of  a building when
he lost his balance and tumbled backwards over the railing, falling to his death.
Sad but true
He is remembered on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website
as well as the SADF 1973 publication on the SSB, on their Roll of Honour.

A WW2 Memorial or "Death" plaque for a casualty during the Italian campaign.
